Did you know that I can use the longarm to baste your quilt so that you can hand quilt it at your leisure? No more kneeling on the floor trying to get all the layers nice and straight. No more basting spray or closing all those safety pins closed. The advantage of using the longarm is that I can use the channel locks to line up the quilt and keep it straight in relation to the backing.
This beautiful log cabin quilt is made from a series of improv blocks that the members of the South Bay Area Modern Quilt Guild made as a thank you gift for the outgoing president, Tina of Little Blue Cottage. I was happy to contribute a block.
The basting is done with Superior Threads So Fine thread in a contrast neutral color so that it shows up. The stitching is about 1/2" long with a few locking stitches at the end and beginning of the row. Each row is about 4" apart. When you begin to quilt all you need to do is to remove a few of the stitches in the area that you're working on.
There was one too many log cabin blocks so Tina chose to highlight one on the backing. That's going to be such a nice touch to this quilt.
So consider using your longarm to baste your quilts before hand quilting them. Now I can't wait to see how Tina's quilt turns out.
